The Holodomor Ukrainian genocide ranks as one of the most horrific modern crimes against humanity. This man-made famine instituted by Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin devastated Ukraine in the early 1930s, claiming an estimated seven to 10 million lives.

In 2008, the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan was the first jurisdiction in North America to recognize the Ukrainian Holodomor as genocide. The fourth Saturday in November is designated as the Ukrainian Famine and Genocide (Holodomor) Memorial Day (November 25, 2017).

This fall marks the start of the 85th anniversary of 1932-33 Holodomor genocide, ending in the fall of 2018.
