This week, Jonathon Muir and Peter Kozushka, two Grade 11 students from the Yorkton Regional High School, attended the annual Rotary Model United Nations for High School students in Winnipeg. The two were chosen to represent Sri Lanka at the event and came back with some excellent experiences.
The two prepared for their role as Sri Lanka for a month before taking part. Neither had done anything like this in the past, but they jumped in and got to work. They knew what resolutions Sri Lanka would speak on, so it was a matter of researching as much about Sri Lanka's economic, domestic and foreign policies as they could and then formulate positions on the resolutions. To do this, they also needed to become familiar with such issues as Chinese presence in the East and South China Seas and the Syrian question.
The Rotary Club of Yorkton has made Jonathon and Peter's experience possible by reserving two student spots in the forum. Students from across Canada and the United States participated.
